On 10th September, Northeastern Libya was hit by Storm Daniel - a hybrid tropical cyclone and mid-latitude storm also known as ‘medicade'.
This disaster has caused disruption in several cities, including Al-Bayda. Numerous lives have been impacted by the extreme weather, which included strong gusts and sudden, heavy rain. More than 10,000 people are still missing, and 53,000 people have lost their lives.
In Mantikas, 884,000 people have been badly affected by the storm and flash.
Upstream dams in Derna caused the homes and the area to be washed away, affecting thousands of people. The floods have also caused the displacement of 30,000 victims, in addition to 3,000 in Albayda, 1,000 in Almkheley, and 2,085 in Benghazi.
UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency is working closely with national and international partners in responding to the situation.
UNHCR emergency team is on the ground to support refugees, asylum-seekers, Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), and newly displaced persons including distribution of non-food items, protection inventions, medical supplies and equipment, and shelter support.
In support of UNHCR, we aim to collect funds to assist those affected by the devastating floods.
The funds collected will be pooled towards providing for the listed relief items and efforts. Prices and packages are for reference only.
