Cyclone Mocha made landfall near Sittwe Township in Myanmar's Rakhine State on 14 May. This is the most severe natural disaster Myanmar and Bangladesh faced in recent years. UNHCR is responding to the situation in both Myanmar and Bangladesh from the onset. We have mobile medical teams on the ground and are ready to
provide shelter materials, water purification tablets, and hygiene supplies. UNHCR is currently assessing the damage and identifying those most in need of aid.
In emergencies, UNHCR's aid and experts can deploy an emergency response within 72 hours. The effectiveness of UNHCR's supply chain is also a matter of life and death to the people we serve. In addition, the Cyclone comes on top of a particularly challenging year. In both Myanmar and Bangladesh, UNHCR's work is severely underfunded, and our capacity to respond now and to prepare for the upcoming monsoon season is heavily strained given the current underfunding. For example, in Bangladesh, general Food Assistance for refugees was recently cut by one-third. Emergency funds were utilized to support 16,000 refugees who lost their homes in a fire in March.
In support of UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, we aim to collect funds to provide relief and provide ongoing care as well as protection for Rohingya refugees who have already endured so much.
The funds collected will be pooled towards providing for the listed relief items and efforts. Prices and packages are for reference only.
