We would like to thank all that have contributed to this project.
We have reached our target and here are the photos of them enjoying the clean water.
On behalf of the people of Kenya, Kwale County we extend heartfelt thanks to you who have donated money to build this well which yields clean, clear water for drinking, cooking, making wuduk and such.
This well is much needed by the families here for their livelihood. Alhamdulillah, now they have a well to draw clean water which is fit for drinking and cooking.
_____________
On the authority of Sa‘d ibn 'Ubadah (ra) who said, 'I asked, “O Messenger of Allah! Which charity is best?” He [saw] replied, “Providing water”'. (Ibn Majah)
The gift of water saves lives, which is a hugely rewardable action. Allah says in the Qur'an, ‘And whoever saves one [a life] - it is as if he had saved all of mankind'. (Qur'an, 5:32) Imagine this - every single time the clean water you sponsor saves someone's life, it is as if you have saved all of mankind!
We use water for everything, from washing dishes to cooking food to growing crops. Allah says in the Qur'an, ‘By means of water, we give life to everything'. (Qur'an, 21:30). Communities who don't have access to clean water face unimaginable hardships, with women and children walking for hours to collect even a little water, and families unable to support themselves due to lack of education and livelihood. Having access to safe water is a basic human right and fulfilling this right is an excellent Sadaqah.
In this part of Kenya, Msabweni, Kwale County there are more than 300 families who require clean water. The nearest water source available at this location is about 1 km away from the village. Imagine walking daily to the water source to collect water. Furthermore the water source is not a proper source. If you see the poster above, it looks more like a pond rather than a well.
Our experience:
During our Qurban project last month, the team in Kenya had to transport pails of water to the location to perform the Qurban. Hence the request if there is any possibility of helping them to build a community well at this location.
Water ultimately is life, it has many greats uses and benefits. Clean water becomes useful and its not just safe to drink but can also be used to grow crops, provide clean water for farm animals and provide better living conditions for the village.
It starts with a basic necessity and insyallah it can grow to more uses.
_____________
Project Life: Community Well & Solar Powered Pump ( Kenya )
For this particular project, we will be commissioning contractors to build the following;
1) A Community Well ( Dug minimally 30-50 meters deep )
2) Installed with proper Pipes & Water Filters
3) Solar Powered Pump
Why solar powered pump?
This location does not have access to electricity however it is always sunny during the day. With Solar technology, it will help to generate enough electricity to power a generator which in turns help to pump the water out.
How is this different with our Well projects in Cambodia?
Unlike in Cambodia, each well is built specifically for one household. In this case the Community Well is big enough to be shared with a whole village - 300 families.
